Perhaps my interest in horse racing photography was sparked when I had success in a Scottish Sports photographic competition back in the 1990s. The image was of a race horse at
rearing up at Perth Racecourse, since then I have always taken my camera to race meetings.
Although my racing images have been very popular I have never sought to
gain access to areas where better images could be received. All the
images are taken from the areas where the public is allowed access. This
interest in racing has resulted in me owning shares in various race
horses and as a result I have had access to racing yards, photographs
from these visits are included in this website. I have had several
approaches by artists to use my images as a basis for their work. One
such collaboration is detailed in a link above. Having success with my
racing images I have branched out and covered other events where horses
are involved. Point To Point is another aspect of horseracing worth
photographing. These are mainly in Fife and the Scottish Borders.
Although very similar in style to professional Horse Racing it is an
amateur sport. More freedom as a spectator is allowed at these events
and as such there is more scope for taking images with a different
perspective at these racing courses. Other competitive horse events such
as Polo, Show Jumping and Carriage Driving all require different
approaches and are all challenging in their own way. Jousting events are
always worth photographing, they are colourful and spectacular with a
mixture of entertainment and sport. These have been mainly photographed
at The Bruce Festival in Dunfermline. Access to the images can be
achieved by clicking on the above icons.
